Breaking Bread workshops

Simple skills, shared conversation

What are Breaking Bread sourdough workshops?

Breaking Bread workshops are small, relaxed gatherings where people can come together and learn the art of making sourdough. We mix, knead, laugh, share stories, and make new friends, all while learning the art of sourdough baking. Everyone leaves with new skills, fresh connections, and a loaf to take home. Led by a qualified nurse, these workshops combine the simple, grounding process of sourdough making with a supportive, welcoming environment.

Who are Breaking Bread Workshops for?

Breaking Bread workshops are for people seeking connection, community, and practical skills in a safe, inclusive space. They offer an opportunity to meet new people, strengthen existing relationships and engage in a shared meaningful activity.

People experiencing grief or life transitions

Birthdays and special occasions

Not-for-profit organisations' well-being staff days

Friend groups or neighbours

Anyone interested in learning sourdough baking

Individuals wanting to learn new skills

Those looking to build social connections or make new friends

Residential aged care communities

Workplace or business groups for team bonding

Workshops are offered in two formats; group workshops (in community spaces), &
home-based (in a private home kitchen)

Each session is intentionally kept small to create a calm, safe space where people feel comfortable engaging at their own pace. Our workshops are open to the general community by booking, so no one misses out, with a portion of every workshop fee donated to those who may otherwise miss out. At times, guest professionals may join the group, such as a grief counsellor or literacy support worker. Baking alongside participants, they offer additional support where appropriate. Where required, clinical supervision can be arranged to support compliance with workplace requirements and current legislation.
